4th Coaltrans Bali Charity Soccer Sixes
On Saturday 1 June 2013 at the Grand Bali Beach sport fields, BSF Asia organized the Coaltrans ‘ Bali International Charity Soccer Sixes tournament was held in perfect dry season conditions. Fifteen teams from Bali, Sumbawa, Java and Singapore competed on three fields, in two categories: Senior and Veteran.
In the Senior’s Cup final the confident and well drilled Germans, the Deutsche Surfers, meet the Balinese BSB, who were relaxed and smiling in the chairs prior to the final, seemingly unperturbed to final’s pressure. In a great final, with contrasting styles, BSB eventually prevailed 2 zero. The Germans were gracious in defeat, BSB moved from relaxed to ecstatic at their competition victory.
In the Senior’s Plate final the Sumbawa Pensioners defeated Persebata one zero, while in Bowl final Jarl’s Burgers defeated Coaltrans two zero. A special mention is due to Dutchman Jarl for organising two teams at such short notice, one comprised of Dutch, French and Moroccan players, who started the tournament a mixed bag of playing styles but then bonded to win the Bowl (however, their trophy was shaped like an egg, albeit a very large and impressive egg).
For the Veteran’s tournament many players defied the title ‘veteran’, turning back the clock of age without a hint of Botox. Games were competitive, skilled and played in the true spirit of hard but fair sport. BSB Tua defeated Global Coal one zero in the Cup final, while in the Plate final, the Sanur Rogues ran politely riot winning five to three over Persebata after penalties .
Following the tournament ,the function sponsored by Italian restaurant Stiff Chilli in Sanur. The function was very well attended, with the Sanur Rogues, Bali Pugs and Deutsche Surfer particularly performing just as well off the field, tackling the free beer and Porchetta with great gusto. Our English soccer comrades went off in search of a nearby bar to watch the Lions v Barbarians ruby union game, then basking in rugby glory returned to Stiff Chilli to kick on.
Thank you to the tournament’s sponsors, Coaltrans Conferences, Earthline, CER, Mitrais and Stiff Chilli, with medical assistance provided by BIMC. The success of the tournament, underscored by BSB and BSB Tua’s victory, shows the true sporting talent that Bali has.
