BSF creating new Parasport – Wheelchair Eskrima (Stickfighting)
Drawing on its experience of introducing and developing over 10 Paralympic sports to a number of South East Asian countries,BSF Asia has now created it a completely new sport – Wheelchair Eskrima (Stickfighting).
Following its long established and successful Special Needs Martial Arts program BSF Asia introduced wheelchair eskrima at the 2017 Bali International Stick Fighting Challenge (BISFC) .
Following its successful debut , BSF Asia’s founder Rodney Holt ,himself a Black belt Eskrimador as well as classifier and official for a number of Paralympic sports has further developed the sport and written the classification manual for the new sport.
This was tested at the 20129 Coaltrans Friendly Games in Bali earlier this year.
Now with the creation of the World Filipino Martial Arts Federation (WFMAF) originally from Italy and Australia ,BSF’s Wheelchair Eskrima is an integral part of the WFMAF leading other martial arts in inclusiveness.
In September Rodney Holt will conduct seminars in Italy , leading to adoption within the Italian Paralympic Federations.
Following the 2019 event ,Holt has made changes to the classification and equipment to reflect different functionalities and make the sport safer.
