BSF Asia Beach Cricket Cup 2011

JUNIORS:

A round robin format between 4 teams: SMP 11, SMP 6, SMP 9 & SMP Nasional. Each team played 3 games. SMP 6 were unbeaten and were pronounced the “Junior Champions of the 1st Beach Cricket Tournament”. SMP 11 won 2 matches to be 2nd place, with SMP Nasional 3rd place. Wisesa of SMP 11 was named “Junior Player of the Tournament”. The schools are from the Denpasar area and developed thru a program by National Team Player & Head Coach of Cricket Denpasar, Wayan Suandi. The boys train at the Sidakarya Ground on Tuesday & Thursday afternoons.

Format based on knockout between 4 teams: Denpasar CC, Gianyar CC, SMA 5 & Lubak CC. 1st match: Gianyar CC def. SMA 5 2nd match: Denpasar CC def. Lubak CC Grand Final: Denpasar (36) v Gianyar (32) The Grand Final was a thrilling match with the result coming down to the last ball. Gianyar needed 10 runs from the last 3 balls. After a wide from Denpasar brought the target to just 8 runs, Oka hit 2 Sixes in a row to have Gianyar in front by 4 runs. With Denpasar needing a wicket off the last ball, Eddy just missed the stumps by a matter of inches. Captain & U/19 National Team player Komang Oka Artana Yasa was judged best “Player of the Tournament” with his 2 wickets & 22 runs ( 3 Sixes & 1 Four) to single handledly steer Gianyar to be “The Champions of the 1st Beach Cricket Tournament”. The Gianyar team are made up of Past & Current SMA Negeri 1 Gianyar students. They were developed under a cricket program by school teacher, Made Erawan, who was just recently awarded the “ICC-EAP (East Asia-Pacific Region) Volunteer of the Year Award” for his good work.
